Tips to Avoid Baggage Always Arriving Late at The Airport
Amidst the booming trend of international travel, many travelers face a common frustration: long waits at baggage claim. However, few realize that the cause of their baggage delays may stem from a seemingly harmless habit.
As reported by RTI News, Taiwan's Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) recently issued a critical warning, highlighting that leaving old baggage stickers on suitcases can be a major cause of delays.
This warning is based on the way modern baggage handling systems at airports operate. Baggage handling relies heavily on automated baggage sorting systems, which use 360-degree scanning technology to read barcodes on baggage tags.
When a suitcase has many old stickers, the scanner can potentially misread the barcode.
The system could misread the barcode from a previous flight, resulting in the baggage being sent to the wrong flight. Another scenario is that the machine cannot identify the correct barcode, so the suitcase is removed from the automated conveyor belt for manual processing, which inevitably causes significant delays.
While many travelers consider old luggage stickers to be a memento of their travels, MOTC urges them to discontinue this practice for the sake of a smoother process.
"To ensure your luggage arrives at baggage claim on time, you'll have to say goodbye to your old stickers," MOTC wrote on social media.
The warning also extends to safety. Passengers are advised not to cross the yellow warning line near the conveyor belt. Standing too close is extremely dangerous, as the tightly packed luggage could fall onto passengers, causing injuries that could ruin their entire travel plans.
By eliminating small habits and increasing safety awareness, the airport experience can become much more efficient and safer.
