PPMI Ministry Collaborates with Kemenimipas to Launch Special Passports for Migrant Workers

The Indonesian Ministry of Migrant Worker Protection (PPMI), in collaboration with the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections (Kemenimipas), plans to issue special passports with unique codes for Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI). This initiative aims to simplify identification and enhance protection for PMI.

PPMI Minister Abdul Kadir Karding revealed that he had a meeting with the Minister of Immigration and Corrections, Agus Andrianto, on Wednesday (November 20). During the meeting, both parties agreed on the issuance of special passports for PMI.

"Alhamdulillah, yesterday I met with Minister Agus. We have agreed to issue special passports with unique codes for PMI. This will simplify the identification process," Karding told the media after an event in Mungkid, Magelang Regency.

In addition to the special passports, Karding mentioned plans to establish a joint service desk where Immigration and PPMI officers will collaborate to address PMI needs.

Regarding the timeline for issuance, Karding stated that the passports would be issued immediately after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

"(This year?) Oh, yes, it must be," he affirmed.

Karding also highlighted the issue of unregistered or nonprocedural PMI. According to surveys, the total number of PMI is estimated to exceed 9 million, but only 5 million are officially registered.

"This means there are approximately 4 million nonprocedural PMI," he noted.

To address this issue, the government plans to improve language preparation, provide training, and tighten border controls.
