THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE SUNDA STRAIT BRIDGE HAS NOT BEEN REALIZED, WHY?
The Sunda Strait Bridge is planned to be a connecting economic path between Java and Bali. However, the realization of the construction of the Sunda Strait Bridge has been going back and forth for years. The bridge which is planned to be built with a length of about 27-30 km across the Sunda Strait, has reaped many pros and cons for the construction of the Sunda Strait Bridge. And in the end, the construction of the Sunda Strait Bridge is still unclear. Why?
Apart from the development plan that will cost too much, namely, 200 trillion. According to the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Sofyan Djalil, this project is only a factor in state losses. In addition to consuming too much budget, the maintenance costs of this bridge require a very large cost. In addition, this is not in accordance with the spirit of "Equitable Development" because it will increase the inequality of development growth between Java Island and other regions in Indonesia, causing large social and economic inequality. So it is considered that this project is not a priority that must be carried out
Apart from the economic aspect, the Indonesian Hindu-Dharma Association (PHDI) of Jembrana Regency also opposes this development, because according to Hindu Mythology, the island of Bali must be bordered by the sea to prevent negative things from entering from outside Bali. That is why this is one of the objections to the construction of the Sunda Strait Bridge.
The Minister of National Development Planning said that the President did not plan to continue this project, "Until now there has never been a statement from the President that he will advance it into an infrastructure project program," he said. After considering and because it was assessed that there were many Cons and Losses in the Sunda Strait Bridge Construction Project, therefore President Joko Widodo never discussed or planned to continue the construction process of the Sunda Strait Bridge even until the end of his leadership.
