Man Infected with COVID 19 fined NTD 2 million for leaving the day before quarantine ends in Taipei
A man in Taipei City infected with COVID-19 was arrested in May for going on a bicycle trip the day before the mandatory self-quarantine ended, and he was fined on Monday (19 September 2022) for alleged violations of the law regarding COVID-19 prevention regulations.
The Taipei District Prosecutor's Office said that the man, surnamed Chen (陳), was infected with the COVID-19 virus on May 3, 2022 and he had notified health authorities of his location for the required 10-day home quarantine period from May 3-13, 2022.
According to the prosecutor's office, Chen left his residence in Wanhua District to go cycling on the morning of May 12, 2022 when he was stopped by Wanhua District police officers at 11:25. Officials discovered that Chen's self-quarantine had not ended until the following day, and he was therefore referred to the Taipei District Prosecutor's Office.
After conducting an investigation into Chen's case, prosecutors stated that Chen was aware that COVID-19 was highly contagious, but he did not comply with the required 10-day home isolation, which could endanger others. Prosecutors charged Chen with violating the Special Action Act.
